About Brian Frost MPTA FIMIT
I qualified as a piano tuner/technician in 1978, having completed a three year full-time course in piano technology at The London College of Furniture (LCF) in London’s East End, where I graduated with a commendation. I won the Alfred Knight 'best student' prize for two consecutive years. Since then I have been working full time, and for the first ten years worked alongside my colleague and friend Ken Forrest carrying out major overhauls on many different types of pianos. I no longer carry out this type of work but use trusted colleagues who specialise in major restoration.
In 1996 I became a Member of the Pianoforte Tuners' Association (PTA) by sitting and passing their entrance exam. The Association is the main professional body for piano tuners in the UK and I have served as PTA President twice - from 2004-2010 and from 2013-2015 - I was awarded Honorary Life Membership in 2013. I am also a member of the examination team which tests new applicants to the Association. I was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Musical Instrument Technology in 2005. I currently represent the PTA at Europiano meetings, which are held throughout Europe. |
Since joining the PTA I have regularly attended training seminars both in the UK and at piano factories in Europe, Japan and America. I have also given lectures at PTA training events and at it's annual Convention.
I have been tuning and repairing pianos since 1978 and my practice is based in and around North Norfolk (see towns regularly visited below). |
